Craft and materials
Carefully chosen wood, worked in our own workshop
We design, cut, assemble and finish every piece in Brévaux-sur-Huisne. Solid wood comes from French forests; boards from European manufacturers.
The woods we work with
- Oak
- Hard, durable, with a strong grain. Our first choice for staircases, worktops and doors.
- Beech
- Pale and even, it takes stain well. Ideal for treads and painted furniture.
- Ash
- Flexible and strong, very pale. For curved handrails and slender parts.
- Walnut
- Deep brown, kept for statement pieces: a tabletop, a bookcase, a set of doors.
- Boards
- Birch plywood, MDF and melamine for carcasses and closets, with wood-veneered edges.
Finishes
- Hard wax oil
- Natural look, can be touched up locally.
- Water-based matt varnish
- Protects without yellowing, easy to care for.
- Lacquer
- Any colour, for doors and back panels.
- Wax
- For antique furniture we restore.

Frequently asked questions
Before you call us
Usually 6 to 12 weeks: 2 weeks for the drawings, 10 days for the quote, then 4 to 8 weeks of manufacturing depending on the project and the season. The manufacturing lead time is written on the quote.
No: within our service area (about 40 km around the workshop) the visit and measuring are free and without obligation. Further away, travel costs may apply; they are stated before the appointment.
On a real quote, a deposit is usually requested when you order, to buy the wood, with the balance due after fitting. The exact amount and schedule are always on the quote, before you sign anything. (Fictitious company: no real terms.)
A French joinery firm must be insured and apply the legal building guarantees (completion, proper functioning, ten-year liability for the works concerned). As Compas & Copeau is fictitious, no certificate exists: on a real site, the insurance certificate would come with the quote.
We fit wood, laminate or ceramic worktops that we order for you. As for appliances, we build in the ones you choose, following their manufacturers' instructions.
No. We work with French species (oak, beech, ash, walnut) and European boards. For outdoor use we offer naturally durable or treated woods.
